All about me.
Since growing up in my family's ceramics workshop, watching them shape formless clay into amazing creations, I knew that I would follow the same path.
I graduated in stop motion animation and have worked as a model maker for film and television on productions including BBC’s Rex the Runt (Aardman Animations), Harry Potter and the Philosopherʼs Stone (Warner Bros) and childrenʼs TV series Pingu (Hot Animation).
Since writing and illustrating my first picture book, Get Ahead Fred, I have collaborated on lots of exciting projects with writers, musicians and designers, as well as working on my next titles.
I love every aspect of writing and illustration and have helped many authors, producers, editors and project managers achieve their creative vision.
A qualified journalist, I have been writing editorial features, proofreading, designing and editing since 2001.
A real highlight of my work is meeting lots of young writers and model makers.
I was proud to be named first Resident Childrenʼs Author by Waterstones Liverpool and I regularly work with children of all ages in schools, nurseries, libraries and other settings all over the country, leading workshops and activity sessions.
One thing’s for sure... no two jobs have been the same.
Since I became self-employed in 2007, I’ve done some amazing things in the name of work. Highlights have been crawling inside the giant scale model of Hogwarts at Leavesden Studios to fit tiny windows; swimming with turtles off Barbados for a travel review; giving an impromptu lecture to a room of enthusiastic illustration undergraduates; hosting a primary school arts festival; carving wooden heads for cats on the beach in beautiful Cornwall; and touching Flea’s bass after being expressly told not to by the tour manager. And if you give me a list of animation producers and directors I can probably still tell you how they take their tea.
I have a wealth of experience when it comes to writing and illustration, and there’s nothing I like better than a new project to get my teeth into... so if there’s anything I can help you with then please get in touch.
